Volunteers in Partnership with the Sheriff (VIP's) Program

VIP's

"Volunteers are invaluable in helping us provide excellent service to our community," stated Sheriff Kenny Furlong.  Since its inception in 2002, our VIP Program has proven to be a great success and continues to expand, offering many services to our community.

Citizens age 18 or older with an interest in helping law enforcement and community service are encouraged to volunteer as VIP's. Citizen Police Academy attendance is not required, but encouraged.

Volunteers will have opportunities to learn new skills and assist the Sheriff's Office in a variety of ways. VIP's will be able to serve in clerical, technical and community service volunteer jobs that will help deliver better service throughout our community.

Volunteer jobs include Citizens on Patrol (COPS), where volunteers provide community safety and crime prevention services.  Other volunteers assist in warrants, records, at the jail, and with the Publicvips Safety Dispatch Center.  This important partnership between the Sheriff's Office and the citizens of our community makes Carson City a safer, better place to live.
